6.0 Installation
This section contains information about installing and upgrading MapR software. It also contains information about how to migrate data and applications from an Apache Hadoop cluster to a MapR cluster.
Upgrading MapR Core or MEP Components
Depending on your current configuration, you may choose to upgrade the MapR version (MapR Core), ecosystem components, clients, or MapR Monitoring components.
Upgrading MapR Ecosystem Packs
Describes how to upgrade MapR Ecosystem Packs (MEPs), either as part of a MapR Core upgrade or to take advantage of a new MEP for the current version of MapR Core.
Preparing to Upgrade the MapR Ecosystem Pack
Complete these pre-upgrade steps for each ecosystem component in the MEP that you want to upgrade.

    - Upgrading the MapR Ecosystem Pack With the MapR Installer
      If the cluster that you want to upgrade was installed using the MapR Installer, you can use the MapR Installer to upgrade the MapR Ecosystem Pack (MEP).
    - Upgrading the MapR Ecosystem Pack Without the MapR Installer
      After you upgrade MapR core without using the MapR Installer, you need to upgrade ecosystem components with manual steps. First, verify that your repository is configured to use a MapR Ecosystem Pack (MEP) that is supported by your cluster version. Then, upgrade each component manually.

Pre-Upgrade Steps for Sqoop2

Complete the following steps before you upgrade Sqoop2 with or without the MapR Installer.

Procedure

Back up configuration files. Copy configuration files from /opt/mapr/sqoop/sqoop-<version>/server/conf/sqoop.properties to a location outside the MapR installation.
For example, you can copy the file to a /tmp directory:
```
cp /opt/mapr/sqoop/sqoop-<version>/server/conf/sqoop.properties /tmp/
```
Delete the Sqoop2 repository (/opt/mapr/sqoop/repository).

NOTE: Due to SQOOP-1593, you also should not create a backup of the Sqoop2 repository before you upgrade.
For upgrades without the MapR Installer:Stop each Sqoop2 server node.
```
maprcli node services -name sqoop2 -action stop -nodes <space delimited list of nodes>
```
