Administering Tables
Administration of the MapR-DB is done primarily via the command line (maprcli) or with the MapR Control System (MCS). Regardless of whether the MapR-DB table is used for binary files or JSON documents, the same types of commands are used with slightly different parameter options. MapR-DB administration is associated with tables, columns and column families, and table regions.

Removing Column Families

About this task

You can delete one or more column families using the MCS and the CLI.

IMPORTANT: Starting in the 6.0 release, you cannot delete a column family from a JSON table.

About this task

To remove one or more column families:

Procedure

Go to the table information page.
See Viewing Table Information.
Click Column Families tab.
The page displays:
- Default column family permissions
- All the column families for the table
Select the checkbox associated with the column families to delete in the All pane.
Click Remove Column Family.
The Remove Column Families confirmation dialog displays.
Verify the list of column families and click Remove Column Family.
If necessary, click to remove a column family from the list of column families to delete.

Removing a Column Family Using the CLI or the REST API

About this task

To remove a column family by name using the CLI or the REST API, run the following command:

maprcli table cf delete -path <path> -cfname <name>
